Ranging in Size from: 1'' x 1'' (3 x 3 cm) to 9'' x 4'' (23 x 10 cm). Harry Scholl (1909-1985), like many self-taught artists, only began creating art late in life. An avid reader and recluse, he remained in his family home for his entire life. After 50 years of work in assorted unrelated jobs, he threw himself into creative expression, began ordering art supplies by mail, and turned his dining room and extra bedrooms into working studio spaces.ξ Scholl filled the house with plaster art hangings that he created for all the door frames and mantels.ξ He was particularly proud of his technique for painting on window screens in a manner that allowed the outside viewer to see the image but not the window, while from the inside you could see out through the screen.ξ Unnoticed by the traditional art world, upon his death Scholl's artworks were saved and preserved by a niece.
